1991, I found out that a good friend, Marilyn Webber, that I went to
high school with in Hawley Texas, had moved to Los Angeles to pursue a
career as a screenwriter. She had written a short story that AFI was
going to producer and she asked if I wanted to work on the film with
her.
The film was called LAST BREEZE OF SUMMER, the story of a African American girl who was one of the first to cross the segregation lines and attend a white school. The film was based on true stories and set in Texas. |

Marilyn
and I had lost touch when we attended different universities and it was
great to be back in touch with her. We had a awesome time making this
film and sharing our passion for filmmaking. Even though I had been an
actor for years, this was the first time that I had worked behind the
scenes and I knew that this was something I wanted to do for the rest of
my life.
Who knew that it would do so well and end up getting an oscar nomination. I learned to ALWAYS take a CREDIT. You never know!!!! |
