My name is Ran Barker and I grew up on my families Farm / Ranch in
West Texas, just outside the small town of Hodges, Texas (Population
27). I attended Hawley High (senior class was only 40 people)
1981 - 1985, I attended Tarleton State University/ Texas A&M University
in Stephenville, Texas. I was a member of the
PLOWBOYS,
KAPPA ALPHA
ORDER, SENATE, SEC, TCAB, GREEK COUNCIL and WHO'S WHO.
In 1985, I graduated from Tarleton State University/Texas A&M and moved
to Dallas where I went to work for an Architectural Graphic Design Company
and began to pursued an acting career. In the next few years I appeared in over 100 national
commercials, feature films and TV series including "DALLAS" - I
was more of a glorified extra and not a leading character but I had fun.
In 1989, I moved to Los Angeles to study acting/filmmaking at UCLA and
AFI and joined Warner Bros. as Department head of Corporate Services.
When Warner Bros bought back the Burbank Studios,
I was in charge of
relocating the entire Corporate Staff onto the new Warner Bros lot.
In 1990, I
met
up with my high school friend Marilyn Webber, who was attending AFI as a
screenwriter. She asked me to work on her short film "Last Breeze of
Summer". The short film went on to grab an
Oscar Nomination.
In 1994, I became the Administrator of TV, working with
ER, FRIENDS,
LIVING
SINGLE, SUDDENLY SUSAN, & 30 other shows. While working as Administrator
of TV, I produced my first feature film "Border to Border" with a newly
created production company "Stage 15 Productions" formed by
myself and 5
other WB employees. “BORDER” went on to win the NY Int'l Independent
Film Festival and the Las Vegas Int'l Film Festival.
In 1998, I went to work with JOHN WELLS PRODUCTIONS and worked with
productions, ER, TRINITY, WEST WING, ADVERSARIES & THIRD WATCH.
In 1999, I left Warner Bros to worked on independent features "I'M THE
ONE THAT I WANT", "PUZZLED", "NOTORIOUS C.H.O.", CHO REVOLUTION and the
awarding winning shorts "GAME DAY"
and "FUGLY"
In 2002, I was the Line Producer of the short
"APPLE JACK", which won
"Best Film" at the Los Angeles Int'l Short Film Festival in 2003, a top
ten finalist award for Project Greenlight and was
a top 10 finalist for an
Oscar Nomination
in 2003.
In 2003, I returned to Warner Bros. to work in Technical Operations for
Feature Films and TV and currently writing and producing my own projects on
the side. |

Here is the poop on my disability
issues
I worked for Warner Bros since 1989 and injured several times during the
year. In Oct 2003, I had a motorcycle accident at the studio. I was hit by a
woman who crossed 3 lanes of traffic and hit me head on. It shattered my
right knee cap and I had to have emergency reconstructive surgery and spent
a week in the hospital. I worked from home starting 3 days after I got out
of the hospital. I worked from home for
six weeks till I was strong enough to take a cab to work in my wheelchair. I
did that for six months and then worked on crutches for several more months. .......more
