Jose Tirado has been elected
president of the Warners Bros. Office Employees, an
independent union representing approximately 700 people at the
studio and its affiliates.
Others elected include Shirley Cohen,
vice president; Dennis Osborne, treasurer;
Ran Barker
and Joann Bell, directors at large; and Angie Maldonado,
second steward.
Tirado's election comes after months
of infighting within the union, with members split over recent
contract negotiations.
Tirado said his main goal is to fight for more equitable
distribution of the studio's wealth.
"If they can afford to spend millions of dollars to
renovate buildings and hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy
Range Rovers for their stars while the rest of us are
car-pooling, then there's a problem," he said.
Also, he said there is the possibility that the WBOE will
eventually seek affiliation with the Intl. Alliance of
Theatrical Stage Employees.
